Background

Oak Bay is home to many parks that hold close memories for families in our region. Carnarvon Park is one of those parks, serving as a pillar of the community.

The District of Oak Bay is looking to the long-term future of the park with a refresh of the Carnarvon Park Master Plan and Main Building design, and wants to hear from community members regarding programs, service levels and design.

Where we are today

At the April 28, 2025 Council Meeting, council awarded the contract for detailed designs to tender ready for the Carnarvon Park Main Building and Park Amenities to Shape Architecture Ltd.

Staff will begin work with Shape Architecture, with information on public engagement to follow.

Timeline item 1 - active

Spring 2025

At the April 28, 2025 Council Meeting, council awarded the contract for detailed designs to tender ready for the Carnarvon Park Main Building and Park Amenities to Shape Architecture Ltd.

Winter 2024/25

At the Dec. 9, 2024 Council Meeting, Council directed staff to move the "Large Pavilion with Childcare" option to detailed design stage. Staff are preparing project charter and request for proposals for the next stage of this project.

Fall 2024

Staff prepared a grant application (due on Oct 15) and are working on the next phase of the technical report for Council. This follow-up report is expected to be presented at a public meeting in December.

Preparation of Parks Master Plan Refresh and options analysis final report to be presented to Council for consideration at an open meeting for selection of a preferred building option.

On Wednesday, April 17, drop in anytime between 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Sports View Lounge at Oak Bay Recreation Centre (1975 Bee Street).

See proposed options for the Main Building and share what services and programs you want to see at the park!
