Richard Ratcliffe Taylor fonds - arrangement and description

28 November 2022

Preservation: photos will be kept in their albums (one original, the other later). Post binding screws removed from album 2 for digitization, not because the pages will be scanned, but because the binding forces the pages to be distorted, especially near the gutter, which prevents the pages and the photos from lying flat. Many of the photos are loose or loosening. Gummed corners have been used throughout and many are detaching. Most have only been secured in two opposite corners in the first place, resulting in lifting of the unrestrained corners and distortion of the print.

Some photos have annotations on verso. This information will be recorded before photos are secured with four photo corners each. Photos will also be digitized before securing, as they are much easier to remove from the album for individual scanning as they are. Care must be taken when turning pages, as many photos are nearly or totally loose from the album and may become displaced.

Digitization

All pages have been photographed as whole pages. Individual photos have been scanned at resolution 300-1200 depending on print size and quality.
