Thank you for considering a volunteer Advisory Body appointment with the District of Oak Bay! It is important to review the following information prior to submitting your application:
- Oak Bay's Advisory Bodies are primarily established to inform Council’s governance role and associated decision-making process through the receipt of input, advice and recommendations that represent the broader interests of the community.
- All of Council's Advisory Bodies are subject to the same open meetings provisions in the Community Charter as Council - this means that all Advisory Body meetings must be open to the public as a general rule. This requirement is intended to be applied broadly, in keeping with the principle of openness, transparency and accountability.
- More information about each Advisory Body, including Terms of Reference and the Committee and Commission Policy, may be viewed at https://www.oakbay.ca/municipal-hall/committees. These documents contain important information about the role and responsibilities of volunteers, Advisory Body functions, meetings and respective mandates.
- If you wish to apply to serve on more than one Advisory Body, please complete a separate form for each application and indicate your order of preference. Applicants will generally only be selected to serve on one committee per term.
- It is important to remember that there is no remuneration for appointees; if appointed, you would serve on the Advisory Body in a volunteer capacity.
- If you have questions about the Advisory Body, please contact Corporate Services at 250-598-3311 or administration@oakbay.ca.
Important Notes About Meetings:
- Committees generally meet in-person monthly (except for the Parks, Recreation and Culture Committee, which meets quarterly), subject to there being business to discuss. As per the Committee and Commission Policy and Council Procedure Bylaw, Committees do not meet in August or during the month of a municipal election.
- The anticipated volunteer commitment is approximately 5 hours per month to prepare for and attend weekday meetings.
